There is a tremendous social and media-driven pressure for women to drop off weight and own model-like lean figures. Women of all ages and from various social classes are affected: high school teenagers who fear coming to the prom when they are pretty but fat, mothers who just of late gave birth, and home-based mothers who once went to work in an office are just come case scenarios of women who find themselves forced to be beautiful.
Sadly, weight gain is inescapable among women, especially those advancing to the middle years. Metabolism decelerates down in middle-aged women, and in post pregnancy. Weight gain, however, is no alibi for women to be ugly. It involves effort on the part of the woman to make herself delightful and beautiful, not just by way of physical appearance but also through her intelligence, maturity, confidence and outgoing disposition. A woman who knows how to take care of her body is inevitably beautiful irrespective of her weight.
But for those who have gone beyond the scales, being heavy is not just cosmetic as an issue but a health matter over-all. Being overweight may trigger a lot of diseases especially in middle-aged women, just like diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, and other lifestyle diseases. This is apart from the dispirited spirit attributed to having a hard time finding the right size when shopping clothes, or having a hard time getting a partner. For mothers, having unnecessary weight after child birth makes it doubly difficult to care for a growing child, simply because with the excess weight, moving and running around, and playing, and exercising other physical activities with the youngster is hindered.
Women are perpetually busy caring for others in the house before they could see to themselves. But women need to make time to take care of themselves, because the whole family's well-being rests upon their shoulders. A woman who holds the least priority in taking care of herself will find it difficult to take care of the other members of the family.
Family members can help their wives, mothers, aunts, and even older sisters in becoming pleasant inside and out. On the physical side, giving them time to dress up, and helping them feel not guilty for shopping, not expensively, but for just the decent dresses they need, and letting them see a dermatologist for their acne and other skin and body care will be a great source of encouragement for them.
In cases where surgery may be needed for women to regain a more pleasant appearance, including
weight loss and treatments for
hair removal, remember to talk only to experts.
